Role Description
The Chief Technology Officer serves as the senior technology leader of Solvigate Justice Services Inc., working directly alongside the Founder and CEO to define and execute the organization's technology vision. This is a volunteer role based in Boston, MA, for a mission-aligned technology leader who understands how to translate complex organizational goals into real, working solutions.
The CTO will oversee technology strategy and infrastructure, develop and manage software solutions, and lead IT-related initiatives across the organization. A key focus of this role is the leadership of a confidential, high-impact AI-driven initiative currently in early development. Details of the project are shared during the interview process.
This role is both strategic and hands-on. Responsibilities include overseeing software development, driving innovation in technology-driven projects, managing product development lifecycles, and providing strategic direction to ensure alignment with Solvigate's mission and organizational goals. The CTO will also collaborate across teams to ensure the successful execution of technology plans that directly support the communities we serve.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Lead the design, development, and execution of Solvigate's technology strategy and infrastructure.
- Oversee software development projects from inception through deployment, ensuring quality, security, and scalability.
- Manage product development lifecycles and drive innovation in technology solutions relevant to legal aid and social services.
- Drive fundraising and grant seeking efforts specific to technology and innovation funding, including identifying technology-focused grants and corporate partnerships.
- Build and maintain relationships with technology partners, academic institutions, and stakeholders in the legal and social services space.
- Contribute to community outreach efforts by representing Solvigate's technology mission to external audiences.
- Collaborate closely with the CEO on organizational strategy and the long-term technology roadmap.
- Provide regular updates to leadership on project progress, risks, and priorities.
- Other duties as assigned by the Founder and CEO.
Time Commitment
Approximately 20 hours per month, with flexibility based on project needs.

Qualifications
- Proven expertise in software development with proficiency in appropriate programming languages and methodologies.
- Strong abilities in project management and IT strategy to oversee multiple initiatives and align technology with organizational objectives.
- Experience in architecture and product development to design scalable, efficient solutions and drive successful product lifecycles.
- Hands-on experience with artificial intelligence, machine learning, or natural language processing is strongly preferred.
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills with the ability to foster collaboration across diverse teams.
- Experience in fundraising, grant seeking, or technology-focused nonprofit development is a strong asset.
- Familiarity with technology trends and an innovative mindset to stay current on emerging tools and methods relevant to nonprofit organizations.
- Strong communicator who can translate complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences, partners, and community stakeholders.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience working in or a strong understanding of nonprofit organizations, social justice, legal services, or social work is strongly preferred.
