The Software Development Manager will lead and mentor engineering teams responsible for a high-traffic, modern web platform. This role balances technical oversight with people leadership, ensuring teams deliver scalable, reliable, and secure features while fostering career growth. The manager will translate business objectives into clear technical plans, coordinate across Product, QA, DevOps, and Architecture teams, and remove blockers to maintain delivery rhythm. This position requires strategic thinking, Agile expertise, and hands-on guidance in technology decisions, while maintaining a people-first approach to leadership. Accountabilities:
- Lead engineering teams, setting expectations, providing feedback, and coaching for career growth.
- Translate business goals into executable technical plans in partnership with Product, QA, DevOps, and Architecture.
- Ensure predictable, high-quality delivery by managing sprint cadence, backlog health, and dependency coordination.
- Drive platform improvements in security, reliability, scalability, and performance.
- Foster a strong engineering culture through mentorship, collaboration, and clear communication.
- Guide teams through high-visibility initiatives, aligning stakeholders and maintaining focus under pressure.
- Establish processes for CI/CD, code quality, observability, and documentation to strengthen software delivery.
Requirements:
Candidates should bring a mix of technical expertise, leadership experience, and strategic vision. Required qualifications include:
- 5–8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 2 years managing or leading development teams.
- Strong technical background in Node.js, React, and cloud infrastructure (GCP preferred; AWS/Azure transferrable).
- Experience with GraphQL or similar real-time API frameworks.
- Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (ArgoCD, GitHub Actions, Azure DevOps, CircleCI, or similar).
- Proven success leading Agile teams, balancing speed, quality, and accountability.
- Strong problem-solving, communication, and facilitation skills, bridging technical and product discussions.
- Experience with PCI compliance and secure coding principles.
- Preferred: eCommerce platform experience, distributed systems knowledge, serverless or edge computing experience, contributions to open-source projects.
