The Opportunity
StatusNeo is strengthening its Retail & Healthcare Consulting Practice and is looking for a Consulting CTO to anchor and lead our Johannesburg operations.
This role is designed for a hands-on, modern technology leader who can shape and deliver large-scale digital platforms across web, mobile, cloud, data, and AI-enabled ecosystems—while remaining deeply embedded with local teams and programs. This is a Johannesburg-first role.
The Consulting CTO is expected to be present, accessible, and hands-on with teams and stakeholders in Johannesburg.
What You Will Do
- Serve as the Consulting CTO for large retail and healthcare transformation programs
- Own technology vision, architecture, and execution across digital platforms
- Lead initiatives spanning:
- Omnichannel web & mobile experiences
- Digital commerce, pharmacy, and healthcare platforms
- Enterprise modernization to cloud-native architectures
- Make architectural decisions across:
- Frontend, backend, APIs, integration, and data layers
- Build and scale high-calibre local engineering and architecture teams
- Act as a trusted technology advisor to senior business and digital leaders
- Stay hands-on where it matters—design reviews, critical builds, and delivery decisions
- Collaborate with StatusNeo’s global leadership while remaining Johannesburg-centric.
Travel & Location Expectations (Important)
- This role is primarily Johannesburg-based
- Very limited travel—only when strategically required
- Day-to-day leadership, delivery, and decision-making happens on the ground
- Ideal for leaders who prefer deep ownership over constant travel
What We’re Looking For
This is a new-age CTO role, not a legacy IT leadership position.
Experience
- 12–18+ years in technology leadership roles
- Background as a CTO, Head of Engineering, Principal Architect, or Consulting Technology Leader
- Strong experience delivering large-scale retail, healthcare, or consumer digital platforms
- Proven success in enterprise consulting and complex delivery environments
Technology Expectations
- Web & Mobile
- Modern frontend frameworks (React, Angular, Next.js)
- Native and cross-platform mobile (iOS, Android, Flutter, React Native)
- Backend & Platforms
- Java / Spring Boot, Node.js, .NET Core
- Microservices, API-first and event-driven architectures
- Cloud & DevOps
- Strong cloud experience (AWS preferred)
- Kubernetes, Docker, CI/CD, GitOps
- Reliability, scalability, and performance engineering
- Data & AI (Strategic Depth Required)
- Modern data platforms and analytics ecosystems
- Practical understanding of AI-driven use cases (personalization, forecasting, automation)
- Clear ability to distinguish real value from hype
- Security & Compliance
- Strong appreciation of security, privacy, and regulatory considerations in retail and healthcare
