We are seeking a seasoned Software Engineering Manager to lead a multidisciplinary team of approximately 25 software engineers developing mission‑critical aerospace and defense software systems. This role requires expertise in both .NET application development and embedded Linux firmware, along with deep experience managing sizable engineering teams in a secure, highly regulated domain.

The ideal candidate brings strong leadership, technical depth, and an ability to drive disciplined engineering practices that meet stringent security, quality, and regulatory standards—including secure software development requirements and compliance with the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).

Responsibilities

Leadership & People Management

  • Lead, mentor, and develop a large engineering team (~25 developers) across .NET applications, embedded Linux systems, and platform components.
  • Provide clear direction, establish expectations, and create an environment that promotes technical excellence, ownership, and collaboration.
  • Conduct performance reviews, manage career growth plans, support professional development, and lead organizational scaling for future needs.
  • Optimize team structure, resource allocation, and workstream alignment to ensure balanced workload and on‑time delivery.

Engineering Execution & Delivery

  • Oversee design, implementation, test, and delivery of aerospace‑grade, secure, high‑reliability software.
  • Ensure engineering discipline through coding standards, peer review processes, documentation rigor, and traceability across the development lifecycle.
  • Collaborate with Program Management and Product teams to define priorities, estimate effort, and ensure alignment with technical and mission objectives.
  • Guide decisions on architecture, platform evolution, refactoring, and long‑term maintainability.

Regulatory, Security, & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Own compliance with secure software development practices, including threat modeling, static and dynamic security testing, secure coding standards, and vulnerability management.
  • Drive engineering readiness and implementation of requirements under the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), including:
    • Mandatory documentation and technical files
    • Vulnerability handling processes
    • Software bill of materials (SBOM) management
    • Lifecycle security monitoring and update obligations
  • Ensure adherence to internal and external aerospace/defense software standards (e.g., secure coding guidelines, risk and hazard analysis frameworks, configuration control).
  • Partner with Cybersecurity, Quality, and Compliance teams to support audits, assessments, and accreditation processes.

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Provide architectural oversight for both .NET application ecosystems and embedded Linux firmware platforms.
  • Drive integration strategies across hardware, firmware, and application layers.
  • Evaluate and introduce new tools and technologies to strengthen development velocity, product security, and system reliability.
  • Support implementation of CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and secure DevOps (“DevSecOps”) practices.

Cross‑Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Systems Engineering, Program Management, and other functional partners to ensure cohesive program execution.
  • Represent software engineering in executive reviews, customer discussions (when appropriate), and regulatory compliance activities.
  • Communicate project status, technical risks, and mitigation plans to leadership with clarity and consistency.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of software engineering management experience, including leadership of large teams (15+ engineers).
  • Proven experience delivering software for aerospace, defense, or other safety‑critical, secure, or highly regulated domains.
  • Strong technical background in:
    • .NET / C# application development
    • Embedded Linux firmware, drivers, board bring‑up, or real‑time systems
  • Demonstrated knowledge of secure software development practices and lifecycle management.
  • Experience with formal engineering processes, documentation, and traceability requirements typical of aerospace and defense programs.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and cross‑functional collaboration skills.

Preferred

  • Familiarity with defense contracting environments, accreditation processes, or classified program execution.
  • Experience with Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and air-gapped environment, or similar secure DOD guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of compliance frameworks tied to the EU Cyber Resilience Act (CRA).
  • Experience with DevSecOps pipelines, static analysis tools, SBOM tooling, and vulnerability scanning.
