Software Engineering Manager – R&D
We are hiring for this on-site position in our Austin, Texas office. It will be 4 days on-site and 1 day remote.
Lead a team shaping software delivery and licensing capabilities. In this role, you’ll manage a skilled group of software developers responsible for building software products that enable NI software distribution, and for licensing and entitlement management. Your leadership will guide the team in delivering reliable solutions, driving technical direction, and ensuring projects meet business objectives, while fostering collaboration and growth.
In this Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:
As a Software Engineering Manager in R&D, your responsibilities include the following:
- Mentor and develop a team of 5 to 7 software engineers (entry level to principal).
- Deliver business results by:
- Driving new feature development.
- Defining strategic software direction.
- Executing project management processes.
- Oversee continuous delivery and project schedules through ownership and delegation.
- Collaborate across teams to ensure customer success.
- Partner with technical leaders, managers, and product managers on software and hardware strategy.
- Communicate effectively with stakeholders, including upper management.
- Facilitate agile ceremonies.
- Maintain product health, prioritize bugs, and handle escalations.
- Ensure end-to-end delivery of product releases.

For This Role, You Will Need:
- BS degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related discipline
- Authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship now and in the future
- Individuals with temporary visas such as E, F-1 (including those with OPT or CPT), H-1, H-2, L-1, B, J or TN, or who need sponsorship for work authorization now or in the future, are not eligible for hire.
- 4+ years of software development experience
- 1+ years of experience in management or technical leadership
- Demonstrated understanding with the following technologies and concepts:
- C++/C# (.net framework, .net core)
- Object Oriented Programming
- Design Principles
- Software Architecture.
- Agile project management
- Experience with Linux development is a plus.
- Experience in leading the team to deliver project specs and deadlines.
- Clear and effective communication. Excels at conveying and communicating messages at the appropriate level of detail within a team/function/department.
- Strong sense of ownership.
- Effective in collaborating beyond department boundaries and across multiple time zones.
- Experience in people management and relevant operational tasks, such as setting goals, effective in coaching/growing team members, fostering a conducive work environment, conducting job interviews, etc.
- Strong technical skills to understand products, make decisions, and unblock the team.
