About the Role
We’re looking for a hands-on Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to own and lead our entire technology function across backend, web, and mobile platforms.
This is not a “slide-deck CTO” role. You’ll be deeply involved in architecture, decision-making, security, DevOps, and guiding engineers day-to-day — while also setting the long-term technical vision of the company.
You’ll work closely with founders and product leadership to balance speed, quality, and scalability as we grow.
Important: Candidates must be residing in the UK.
What You’ll Be Responsible For
Technology Leadership & Strategy
- Define and execute the company’s technology vision, roadmap, and architecture.
- Own scalability, reliability, performance, and long-term system health.
- Evaluate and introduce new tools, frameworks, and best practices.
Backend Architecture & Operations
- Oversee backend systems built with NodeJS, TypeScript, NestJS, and MongoDB.
- Manage hosting and infrastructure (currently DigitalOcean Apps Platform).
- Lead:
- API architecture
- Data modelling & indexing
- Performance optimisation
- Security & compliance
- CI/CD pipelines
- Ensure high availability, monitoring, observability, and incident readiness.
Frontend (Web)
- Guide development using:
- VueJS
- Quasar Framework
- Pinia state management
- Maintain high standards in UX, accessibility, reliability, and performance.
- Coordinate closely with product and design teams.
Mobile Apps
- Oversee Flutter app development including:
- Push notifications
- Background location tracking
- In-App Purchases (IAP)
- Offline handling & data sync
- Ensure compliance with Apple App Store and Google Play policies.
- Maintain consistent architecture across backend, web, and mobile.
Team Leadership
- Lead and mentor backend, frontend, and mobile engineers.
- Set engineering standards, review processes, and development practices.
- Build a culture of ownership, pragmatism, and continuous improvement.
Security & Compliance
- Implement and enforce security best practices.
- Ensure GDPR compliance, encryption, access control, and audits.
- Own testing, monitoring, logging, error handling, and QA pipelines.
Product Partnership
- Work directly with product and company leadership.
- Translate product requirements into clear technical execution plans.
- Balance fast iteration with long-term technical quality.
What We’re Looking For
Must-Have
- 5+ years in engineering leadership (CTO, Head of Engineering, Lead Architect).
- Strong hands-on experience with:
- NodeJS, TypeScript, NestJS
- MongoDB (schema design, indexing, scaling)
- VueJS ecosystem (Vue 3, Quasar, Pinia)
- Flutter (push notifications, background services, IAP)
- Experience running production systems in managed cloud environments (DigitalOcean, AWS, Vercel, Heroku, etc.).
- Strong understanding of CI/CD, DevOps automation, monitoring, and cloud security.
- Proven track record building and scaling production-grade systems.
