About Abracadabra+
Abracadabra+ is building a global social and services platform for the LGBTQ+ community, combining social discovery, local experiences, and a services marketplace in one ecosystem. The product is already live across iOS, Android, and web, with early global traction across multiple countries and early revenue already underway. The next phase is focused on scaling the platform, deepening the product, and building the technical foundation for significant international growth. We are looking for a hands-on CTO who is excited by the opportunity to help shape an ambitious consumer platform at an early but validated stage.

The role
This is not a zero-to-one build. The product is already live and in market, with early traction and revenue. The CTO will initially join in a fractional capacity, helping lead the next phase of technical evolution as the company prepares for scale. Over time, the role is intended to evolve into a full-time CTO position, with responsibility for technical strategy, engineering leadership, infrastructure, and the build-out of the engineering organization. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys joining early, working closely with the founder, and helping turn a high-potential product into a globally scalable platform.
Key responsibilities
- Technical leadership
Define the technical direction of the company for the next stage of growth
Lead architectural decisions across product, backend, infrastructure, and mobile
Ensure the platform is built for performance, reliability, security, and scale
- Scalability and platform development
Design the roadmap for scaling to hundreds of thousands and ultimately millions of users
Support the continued evolution of the platform across social, marketplace, and transaction-related functionality
Help ensure the product is ready for international growth and increasing complexity
- Engineering organization
Help shape the future engineering team
Define technical standards, workflows, and development processes
Act as a senior technical counterpart to the founder
Balance hands-on input with longer-term strategic decision-making
Ideal profile
We are looking for someone with strong experience building and scaling consumer mobile products and modern backend systems, ideally in social, marketplace, community, or high-engagement product environments.
- Mobile
Experience building and scaling iOS and Android products
Familiarity with React Native or other cross-platform mobile frameworks
Strong understanding of mobile performance, release management, and deployment

Strong experience with React and TypeScript ecosystems
- Backend
Experience with PostgreSQL, APIs, and scalable backend systems
Familiarity with real-time systems, messaging, feeds, and social product patterns
- Infrastructure
Experience with cloud-native infrastructure and modern deployment practices
Ability to design systems for scale, robustness, and long-term maintainability

Structure and compensation
This role is equity-based initially, reflecting the stage of the company and the strategic importance of the position. The intended structure is: fractional involvement in the first phase, meaningful founding-stage equity upside, transition into a full-time salary + equity CTO role as the company grows and financing allows.
