Position Overview
The Director of Engineering will be pivotal in expanding and managing our engineering department, with a strong emphasis on hardware engineering. This role requires a strategic leader adept at scaling teams, optimizing engineering processes, and ensuring the successful delivery of cutting-edge automation and robotic systems.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Expansion and Leadership: Strategically scale the engineering team to meet growing project demands, including recruiting, mentoring, and retaining top talent.
- Process Optimization: Develop and implement engineering processes that enhance efficiency, quality, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
- Project Oversight: Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of hardware engineering projects, ensuring alignment with company objectives and timelines.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with software engineering, product management, and operations to ensure cohesive integration of hardware components within our systems.
- Innovation and Development: Drive continuous improvement and innovation in hardware design and development, staying abreast of industry trends and emerging technologies.
- Budget and Resource Management: Manage departmental budgets, ensuring optimal allocation of resources to meet strategic goals.
Qualifications
- Educational Background: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- Experience: Minimum of 10 years in hardware engineering, with at least 5 years in a leadership role within the automation or robotics industry.
- Team Scaling Expertise: Proven track record of successfully scaling engineering teams, including experience in recruitment, team structuring, and talent development.
- Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of hardware development processes, including design, prototyping, testing, and manufacturing.
- Leadership Skills: Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and guide teams toward achieving strategic objectives.
- Problem-Solving Abilities: Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on innovative and efficient solutions.
- Communication Skills: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of articulating complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced Degree: Master’s or Ph.D. in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Industry Recognition: Active participation in professional organizations and contributions to industry publications or conferences.
- Global Experience: Experience managing engineering teams across multiple locations and collaborating with international partners.
