Chief Technology Officer (CTO)- CIO

Position Summary
Women of Color on the Move (WOCOTM) is seeking a visionary and mission-aligned Chief Technology Officer (CTO) to lead the organization’s technology strategy, digital infrastructure, and innovation efforts. The CTO will play a critical role in ensuring WOCOTM effectively leverages artificial intelligence (AI), digital tools, and technology systems to expand program reach, improve operations, and strengthen community impact.
The CTO works closely with the CEO, Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers to align technology initiatives with organizational goals, equity values, and long-term sustainability.
About The Role
We are seeking an experienced and skilled Chief Technology Officer (CTO) as a Volunteer to be a board member for WOCOTM. The goal is to help grow our team in technology to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will have the requisite experience, skills, passion, and leadership capabilities necessary to drive continued rapid and profitable growth for WOCOTM. Reporting directly to the CEO, the CTO will play a key role in establishing the technology vision and lead Women of Color on the Move technological innovation and development.
The successful candidate will recommend and implement the technical strategy roadmap that will align with the company’s business goals and objectives in support of continued growth. This individual will also need to see their role through the lens of the business, while driving innovative technologies that will enhance Women of Color on the Move products and create a sustainable competitive advantage in the Tech space.
Key Responsibilities
Technology & AI Strategy
- Develop and oversee WOCOTM’s technology and AI strategy in alignment with the organization’s mission and strategic plan
- Identify and implement AI tools to improve program delivery, data analysis, communications, fundraising, and internal operations
- Ensure ethical, responsible, and inclusive use of AI and emerging technologies
- Stay current on technology trends and recommend innovations that support nonprofit growth and impact
Systems & Infrastructure
- Oversee technology systems including cloud platforms, data management tools, cybersecurity practices, and digital workflows
- Ensure technology solutions are scalable, secure, and accessible
- Support integration of tools across departments (programs, finance, communications, and development)
Data, Analytics & Digital Transformation
- Guide data collection, reporting, and analytics to support decision-making and impact measurement
- Support the use of AI and automation for reporting, grant tracking, and performance monitoring
- Establish technology standards, documentation, and best practices
Leadership & Collaboration
- Serve as a strategic advisor to the CEO and Board on technology and innovation
- Collaborate with staff, consultants, and volunteers to implement technology initiatives
- Support training and capacity-building for staff and board members related to AI and digital tools
Governance & Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with data privacy, cybersecurity, and nonprofit technology governance standards
- Assess and mitigate technology-related risks
- Support grant and funder reporting related to technology and digital capacity
Qualifications
Professional Experience
- Proven experience in technology leadership, digital transformation, or IT strategy
- Demonstrated experience using AI tools for business, data analysis, automation, or content development
- Experience working with nonprofit organizations or mission-driven entities preferred
- Experience advising executive leadership or boards
- Board member dues are required.
Role Responsibilities
- Define the company’s overall technology strategy to support business objectives
- Work with the leadership team to set clear priorities and goals for IT-Management and production, balancing the long-term and immediate needs
- Compete with industry leaders in terms of innovation and forward-thinking strategy
- Make infrastructure decisions, ensuring technical excellence, versatility, safety and soundness, resiliency and scalability in the architecting and engineering of product solutions, as well as managing all technical delivery
- Create strategic plans and set timelines for evaluation, development, and deployment of all technical, web, and mobile services focus on the future me and code of America
- Ensure tight collaboration across departments to drive strategic initiatives, including understanding of the alignment between technology strategy and various technology road maps
- Oversee data security, management, and governance
- Manage strategic vendor and technology partner relationships
- Continue to build a high-performing team that promotes innovation and inclusiveness
- Provide oversight of the software teams to ensure decisions are aligned with Women of Color on the Move vision and values
- Manage IT resource allocation, goal/ setting, and performance metrics
- Facilitate the development and implementation of disaster recovery and IT security failure plans
- Develop and manage annual and quarterly budgets
- Display transparency and inspire confidence in the organization’s decision making
- Create a trusting environment where people are open to raising and discussing issues
- Lead with compassion and inspire others by example
- Work with the Board of Directors of WOCOTM, Staff and volunteers
- Able to use Microsoft 365 program
Technical Skills (Required)
- Strong knowledge of AI platforms and tools (e.g., generative AI, analytics, automation tools)
- Experience with cloud-based systems and collaboration platforms
- Understanding of data privacy, cybersecurity, and ethical technology use
- Ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences

Required Skills & Experience
- Proven experience as a CTO, director, or similar leadership role
- Must know how to use Microsoft 365 period.
- Have 3 years or more experience
- Know how to use AI.
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, information systems or related field (master’s degree preferred) or equivalent work experience
- Strong department leader with skills in strategic planning, goal setting, processes development, budgeting, and creating opportunities for professional development within technology teams
- Excellent communication, leadership, and strategic thinking abilities with a problem-solving aptitude
- Solid understanding of broad technology trends and the ability to align innovation with business goals
- Deep knowledge of technological trends to build a strategy
- Strong communication with ability to convey technical topics in easy-to-understand business terms and work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and external partners
- Strategic smarts, including the ability to identify new opportunities, drive clarity, create focus, and make tough decisions in complex and dynamic contexts
- Ability to track and identify new technologies to solve complex business issues
- Broad knowledge of software engineering languages, frameworks, techniques, and industry trends
- Experience with agile methodologies
