Position Overview

The Manager, Software Engineering is responsible for the management and direction of building custom software and integration solutions, as well as the administration of COTS and SaaS solutions. He/she will provide leadership and help craft a vision of how technology solutions can be applied within the enterprise providing direct consultative support to the Information Technology Management workgroups. This leader will provide management of personnel for the functional areas. This hands-on position requires high levels of attention to detail to ensure that systems needed by the organizations are fully functional and operating 24 x 7 x 365. This leader must also encourage quality and ensure there is an effective process that can be duplicated for developing and supporting software solutions. This position requires participation in the development of software solutions and a broad understanding of technology implementations, software systems, networks, and troubleshooting in both on-prem and Azure cloud environments.

Essential Functions

  • Provide leadership and mentoring in the development, implementation, and deployment of software solutions.
  • Develop and manage effective working relationships with other departments, groups, or personnel with whom work must be coordinated.
  • Participate in code reviews to ensure the quality of the code by avoiding complexity and advocating clarity.
  • Responsible for the performance management of direct reports.
  • Provide professional and skill development to direct reports.
  • Handle Inter-personnel issues or other issues of direct reports.
  • Follow the strategic direction of the department and provide suggestions to improve the company and department processes.
  • Maintain an in-depth technical expertise in all areas of Microsoft products and industry trends.
  • Professional strategic consulting on the movement of legacy applications to a modernized Microsoft Cloud stack where possible.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of current technology solutions for internet, handheld/mobile devices, personal computers and networks.
  • Familiarity with multiple coding and computer languages.
  • Experience working within a software development lifecycle (SDLC), Agile / DevOps experience strongly preferred.
  • Experience working within an iterative development process. (CI/CD)
  • Experience working within a DevSecOps environment.
  • Experience working on software integrations and API / Service Bus development.
  • Experience working with complex software projects.
  • Excellent planning, organizing and problem-solving skills.
  • Use initiative, exercise good judgment, and exhibit business savvy orientation.
  • Very strong conceptual, analytical, judgment and communication abilities.
  • Very strong teamwork and mentoring skills.
  • Experience setting up and working with Azure DevOps and code repositories (TFS / Azure Server).

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or Information Systems or Associate Degree and 8 years of work experience. 3-5 yrs management experience in software development. Professional certification in cloud software architecture, frameworks or languages preferred. 5+ years designing and developing large-scale, highly reliable and highly available Internet facing applications using Microsoft technologies. 3+ years of experience with cloud technologies. Azure preferred. 5+ years of experience with .NET technologies (VB.NET / C# / ASP.NET). 2+ years of experience with .NET Core. 5+ years of experience with MS-SQL writing T-SQL and stored procedures and database schema design. 2+ year of experience with No SQL databases. Azure Cosmos DB preferred.

Physical Demand

This position regularly requires the abilities of sitting, fingering or manual dexterity, climbing, walking, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Work Environment

This position is an office environment with very limited exposure to any outside fumes, odors, heat and/or weather conditions.
