Core Responsibilities
- 🧭 Define and drive the vision, roadmap, and scalable architecture for Thunders.ai.
- 📡 Monitor emerging AI trends and technology news, to guide strategy and technical decisions.
- 🧑⚖️ Own decisions while empowering each individual team member to propose, test, validate, and measure ideas.
- 🧑💼 Hire, lead, and coach a small, agile, high-performing engineering team, providing mentorship, individual performance management through regular feedback and reviews, and fostering professional and personal growth.
- 📊 Deploy a data-driven culture focused on Objectives & Key Results (OKRs), linking team and individual targets to measurable business impact and reporting results transparently.
- 🏁 Run and lead key sprint milestones (such as triage, sprint planning, spec reviews, retrospectives, …), personally verifying milestone completion and operational excellence.
- 🤝 Promote a collaborative, ethical, and psychologically safe team culture that encourages innovation, knowledge sharing, feedback, and continuous improvement.
- 🧪 Be a top user of the platform, working with key stakeholders to define how the product should work and maximize client value.
- 📈 Ensure, measure, understand, and monitor system scalability, health, and reliability.
- ⚙️ Define, optimize, and operate the LLMOps stack.
- 📣 Align with and promote key company leadership principles: Bias for action, Frugality, Have Backbone; Disagree and Commit.
Requirements & Desired Qualities
- 🧭 Proven experience building and leading AI engineering teams, in agile environments driven by rapid product iteration and research-to-production cycles.
- 🤖 Passion for creating secure, robust, and user-centered AI that continuously delivers measurable value.
- 🤝 Strong organizational and communication skills for effective cross-team collaboration.
- 🧠 Deep technical knowledge in agent architecture, autonomous system design, and modern AI platforms—plus awareness of leading-edge tools and best practices for agent-centric architectures.
- You know how to implement it yourself, but you get the job done even faster with the team.
- 🌍 Perfect English (good French is extra credit).
- ✈️ Works efficiently in a hybrid environment, and available to travel to meet partners and team members.
- 🔬 Research-driven mindset with ability to experiment and iterate quickly.
- Detail-oriented approach to dataset curation and evaluation.
- Growth mindset—adaptable to the rapidly evolving GenAI space.
