Director of Engineering Role
The Director of Engineering is a senior leadership position responsible for bridging the gap between executive leadership and the engineering organization. This role reports directly to the VP of Engineering and Quality and partners closely with an Engineering Manager who is earlier in his leadership career.
This position requires a technically strong, polished engineering leader who can balance strategic oversight with hands-on technical credibility, particularly in CNC programming, process engineering, and machining optimization.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the link between the executive leadership team and the engineering organization
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and structure to an engineering team of 8–10 engineers
- Approximately 6–8 Manufacturing Engineers
- 2 Process Engineers
- Support and oversee quoting of new jobs, including customer requirements review, process planning, and cost modeling
- Optimize CNC programming strategies and manufacturing processes to drive cost reduction and cycle time improvements
- Ensure engineering resources are aligned with business priorities and production demands
- Support development, standardization, and continuous improvement of engineering processes
- Partner closely with Quality, Operations, and Leadership to ensure engineering decisions support overall business objectives
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required
- Extensive background in machined components and CNC manufacturing
- Strong, hands-on understanding of CNC programming and process engineering
- Proven experience leading engineering teams in a precision machining environment
- Ability to communicate effectively at both the executive and shop-floor levels
- Strong business acumen related to quoting, cost control, and operational efficiency
