Engineering Manager - Site Reliability Engineering | Major Financial Institution
Circa $220k + super + bonus
We're hiring an Engineering Manager for a Software SRE team in Australia. This isn't a typical corporate banking role.
The Challenge
Lead 10-12 senior SREs (12-20 years of experience) across the entire digital platform. Your team doesn't just respond to incidents; they're architecture consultants who embed with platform teams to uplift reliability, observability, and resilience practices across the organisation.
What You'll Actually Do
- Drive large-scale reliability programs spanning multiple teams
- Guide senior engineers through complex distributed systems problems
- Shape architecture decisions and release engineering practices
- Lead observability uplift initiatives (Datadog, distributed tracing, SLOs)
- Build roadmaps for data platform reliability, infrastructure reliability, and deployment automation
What We Need
You're a strong technical engineer (design/architecture, not necessarily coding) who's ready to lead or recently stepped into people leadership. You've built systems at scale, understand distributed systems deeply, and can hold your own in design reviews with principal-level engineers.
Most critically: you're exceptional at stakeholder management and cross-functional work. SRE here means constant engagement across teams, driving change through influence rather than authority.
The Setup
Go/Python stack. Experimenting heavily with AI. Small team, high autonomy, genuine appetite for change. SREs are respected problem-solvers here, not ticket-takers.
If you've led reliability initiatives at scale or you're a senior engineer ready to leverage your technical depth in leadership, we'd love to talk.
