Role Description

This is a full-time, on-site role located in Houston, TX for a Director of Engineering. The Director of Engineering will oversee and manage the engineering team, providing leadership to ensure the successful execution of projects. Responsibilities include supervising engineering operations, implementing and managing integration processes, guiding software development initiatives, and collaborating across teams to meet the company's operational and strategic goals. The role also involves aligning engineering goals with company objectives and driving innovation in manufacturing processes.

Qualifications

  • Proven experience in Engineering Management and Team Leadership, with the ability to mentor and inspire engineering teams.
  • Strong expertise in PLS Pole and PLS CADD software and other proprietary design tools.
  • Knowledge and experience utilizing FEA software packages.
  • Design of connections including arm brackets, baseplates, vangs, etc.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Project Management, including planning, execution, and delivery of complex engineering projects and vast understanding of the characteristics of power delivery for T&D steel structures.
  • Proficiency in process optimization and implementation of cross-functional integration strategies.
  • Excellent problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
  • Master's degree in Civil Engineering with 10+ years of relevant experience or Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from ABET accredited university with 12+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in manufacturing or related industries is highly preferred.
  • Strong ability to manage timelines, budgets, and resources effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Understand project specifications, design procedures, timeliness, and characteristics of power delivery T&D structures.
  • Be a resource for technical support.
  • Manage resource capacity planning for overall engineering department.
  • Monitor Sales Force process entries for quality bid progress reporting.
  • Confirm time estimates and commitment dates for bid engineering schedule.
  • Assure Bid Summary accuracy and confirm priorities according to strategy.
  • Manage and Conduct R&D program.
  • Support all Project Management, Drafting, Plant and Field Issues.
  • Lead Design for Manufacturing initiatives.
  • Train other department personnel on technical criteria.
  • Develop software and tools for efficient and effective quote engineering techniques and teach / train engineers.
  • Assure quality and completeness of bid engineering packages.
  • Set engineering department smart goals.
  • Supervisory and administrative duties including employee reviews; Perform structural analysis and design a variety of structures using approved design procedures and industry standard PLS-POLE software and other proprietary design tools; Design of connections including arm brackets, baseplates, vangs, etc.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing on processes and procurement.
  • Communicate with customers via phone, letter, fax, email and in person.
  • Complete final check of shop drawings before sending them to clients for approval.
  • Set positive engineering / drafting team culture.
  • Administer training program for incoming engineers.
  • Design, report and improve on select KPIs to VP of Engineering.
  • Work with the engineering standards group to implement calculation methodologies that achieve design optimizations.
  • Manage the Engineering Quality Assurance program.
  • Propagating a client-driven culture that develops lasting relationships with customers.
  • Other duties as assigned.
