About the Opportunity:

The Director of Engineering - Core Product will lead and expand the Core Product engineering team, working closely with the executive and cross-functional leadership to shape the product’s future. This role is responsible for defining the architectural roadmap, setting strategy, driving operational engineering excellence, and fostering a high-performance culture that delivers significant value to the organization’s clients. The position bridges product vision and technical execution, ensuring technology investments generate lasting business impact and growth. This role suits a leader committed to quality and innovation in software development, impacting critical decisions at major insurance companies.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and grow the Core Product engineering team
  • Define architectural roadmap and set engineering strategy
  • Drive engineering operational excellence and metrics-driven decision-making
  • Establish engineering frameworks, standards, and cross-functional processes
  • Collaborate with executive and cross-functional teams to align technical and business goals
  • Recruit and retain top-tier engineering talent
  • Manage tradeoffs to deliver high-quality code in a fast-growing environment
  • Oversee scalable platform development leveraging serverless technologies and cloud environments
  • Foster a culture of experimentation, testing, measurement, and iteration

Requirements:

  • 10+ years of software engineering experience
  • Minimum 3 years of full-time engineering people management, including managing managers and scaling teams
  • Experience leading complex, large-scale engineering projects aligned with company objectives
  • Skilled in recruiting and retaining exceptional engineering talent
  • Strong decision-making skills balancing quality and speed
  • Expertise in system design, distributed systems, scalable infrastructure, and cloud platforms
  • Experience with serverless technologies such as Lambda and EC2, and asynchronous workflows
  • Comfortable managing both human and AI agents
  • Commitment to operational excellence through engineering best practices and metrics

Pay Range and Compensation Package:

  • Salary range: $215,000 – $295,000 USD
  • Significant equity options package
