The Role: Your Mission
As our first CTO, you will be the cornerstone of our technological function. This is a hands-on, strategic leadership role for a builder and an architect. You will be responsible for defining and executing the entire technology blueprint that will power our business for the next 3-5 years. You will not only build and mentor a world-class engineering team but also serve as a key strategic partner to the CEO and the executive team, ensuring our technology plan is robust, scalable, and perfectly aligned with our ambitious business goals.
Key Responsibilities
Technology Vision & Strategic Planning:
- Develop and own the end-to-end technology strategy and roadmap, translating the company's business blueprint into a clear, actionable, and phased technical plan.
- Architect the core payments platform, making critical decisions on technology stack, infrastructure, and system design for high availability, security, and low-latency transaction processing.
- "Plan ahead of the business blueprint" by anticipating future needs in areas such as new payment methods, geographic expansion, regulatory changes, and emerging technologies (e.g., Blockchain, AI/ML).
Technical Execution & Platform Build:
- Lead the design, development, and deployment of our core payment processing engine, fraud detection systems, API infrastructure, and data analytics platforms.
- Implement and champion best practices in software development, Agile methodologies, CI/CD, DevOps, and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
- Ensure the platform is built with scalability, resilience, and security as first principles, not afterthoughts.
- Oversee the entire software development lifecycle, from concept to deployment and maintenance.
Resource & Team Leadership:
- Be "clear-minded on the resources needed" – you will build, mentor, and lead a high-performing technology team, including back-end, front-end, QA, DevOps, and more.
- Define the organizational structure, hiring plan, and talent development strategy to scale the team effectively.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
Business Leadership & Collaboration:
- Act as a key member of the executive leadership team, contributing to overall business strategy, fundraising (providing technical due diligence), and market positioning.
- Communicate complex technical concepts clearly and persuasively to non-technical stakeholders, including the board, investors, and commercial partners.
- Partner closely with Product Management to define and prioritize the product roadmap, ensuring technical feasibility and strategic alignment.
Qualifications & Experience
- 8+ years of progressive technology leadership experience, with at least 3-5+ years in a Head of Engineering or CTO role within a fast-paced Fintech, Payments, or Financial Services company.
- Proven, hands-on experience in building and scaling a real-time, high-volume payment processing system from the ground up.
- Payments Domain: Core banking systems, card networks (Visa/Mastercard), payment gateways, acquirers/issuers, and global payment schemes.
- Technology Stack: Microservices architecture, event-driven systems, API design, object-oriented programming, and modern front-end frameworks.
- Cloud & Data: Expertise in a major cloud platform (AWS preferred), Kubernetes, Docker, SQL/NoSQL databases, and data streaming technologies (Kafka, etc.).
- Demonstrated success in building, mentoring, and scaling high-performance engineering teams.
- Exceptional strategic thinking, resource planning, and financial acumen with experience managing multi-million dollar budgets.
