As a Software Development Manager (SDM) you will be responsible for owning the team's roadmap and ensuring the strategic visions is executed. You will be responsible for gathering customer requirements, project prioritization, software quality, and system delivery. You will help mentor, develop, and the guide the engineers responsible for the system development.

You will need to clearly create, manage project roadmaps and timelines, while proactively managing risks. You will participate in executive level communication, forge strong partnerships across the board and effective peer level/team level communication. You will have opportunities to work on both complex roadmaps and interact with business stakeholders directly. To be successful in this role, you should be comfortable gathering requirements across the many stakeholders with complex and frequently unknown solutions, creating and maintaining technical project plans, and diving into the technical details to understand the nuances and complexities involved. Your work will interface with various subsystems within Amazon Leo.

The ideal candidate will be detail oriented, an excellent communicator, have strong organizational skills, able to work independently, can juggle multiple tasks at once, and ensure deliverables meet requirements and deadlines. You should have strong knowledge software engineering practices, enjoy mentoring and developing the engineers that work on your team.

  • Build, lead and manage a diverse team of engineers.
  • Provide technical guidance for the team in addressing projects with broad scope and limited definition to ensure test and design objectives are met.
  • Define team growth expectations and organization strategy.
  • Coordinate internal and external resources to ensure team and project success.
  • Communicate fluidly across a variety of teams to identify product risks and how they will be addressed to ensure mission success.
  • Juggle multiple priorities while optimizing the system and schedule.
  • Apply critical thinking in complex situations and ambiguous environments.

About The Team

The team builds and maintains the software services responsible for building and managing critical configuration for Leo satellites.

Basic Qualifications

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience delivering products against plan in a fast-paced, multi-disciplined, distributed-responsibility and often ambiguous environment

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
