Overview
Our client is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead high-performing engineering teams and deliver scalable, reliable software products. This role is ideal for a technical leader who can balance execution, architecture, and people leadership—building strong engineering culture while partnering closely with Product, Design, and Data teams.
The Director of Engineering will own engineering delivery, team growth, and technical excellence—driving predictable outcomes, quality, and continuous improvement.
Key Responsibilities
Engineering Leadership & Delivery
- Lead multiple engineering teams to deliver roadmap commitments with high quality and predictable timelines.
- Establish clear execution rituals (planning, sprint cadence, reviews, retrospectives) and accountability.
- Manage engineering capacity, staffing plans, and delivery risk across initiatives.
Technical Strategy & Architecture
- Guide system design and architecture decisions for scalability, performance, security, and maintainability.
- Partner with architects/lead engineers to define technical standards, best practices, and patterns.
- Drive technical debt management and platform modernization where needed.
People Management & Culture
- Hire, coach, and develop engineering managers and senior engineers.
- Implement career ladders, performance processes, and growth plans.
- Foster a culture of ownership, craftsmanship, collaboration, and learning.
Operational Excellence
- Improve reliability through strong SDLC practices, CI/CD, testing, observability, and incident management.
- Track and improve engineering metrics (lead time, deployment frequency, defect rate, uptime).
- Ensure compliance with security and data privacy standards as applicable.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with Product to align scope, sequencing, and tradeoffs.
- Collaborate with Data/Analytics, Security, and Operations to ensure cohesive delivery.
- Communicate progress, risks, and outcomes to leadership stakeholders.
Qualifications
- 8–12 years in software engineering, including 3–5+ years leading teams/managers.
- Proven track record delivering complex products/platforms at scale.
- Strong engineering fundamentals and architecture experience across modern stacks.
Technical & Engineering Skills
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/GCP/Azure), CI/CD, and modern SDLC practices.
- Familiarity with microservices, APIs, data systems, and security fundamentals.
- Strong grasp of engineering metrics and operational reliability practices.
Leadership & Attributes
- Execution-focused and outcome-driven.
- Clear communicator who aligns stakeholders.
- High bar for quality, performance, and team health.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in B2B SaaS, AI/ML-enabled products, or regulated domains (fintech/health).
- Experience leading distributed teams.
