As a Principal Engineer Manager - Azure Databricks, you will lead the engineering team and partner closely with product management to grow the business, improve product quality and security, and drive operational excellence. You will be responsible for developing new features that differentiate Azure Databricks as a first-party service, with deep integration into the Azure ecosystem. You’ll collaborate with stakeholders across Microsoft and Databricks to influence the future of our platform and deliver customer-centric innovations.

Responsibilities

  • Lead team in designing and building distributed systems that interact between different cloud technology services and infrastructures.
  • Conduct research and maintain an awareness of industry knowledge and identify ways the information can be applied.
  • Mentor team members and cross teams, providing technical direction for the engineering organization.
  • Lead team in writing high-quality documentation including design documents, troubleshooting guides, and software specs.
  • Participate in onboarding, code/design reviews, and regular meetings with the engineering teams that develop and manage those products.
  • Participate in designs, develops, and maintains telemetry pipelines and monitoring tools that detail operations metrics and lead team to conduct deployment of the software products through Azure DevOps and CI/CD (continuous integration/continuous delivery) process.
  • Respond to incidents during regular on-call rotations. Improve and optimize supportability of the product through innovative ideas and lead team and participate in monitoring performance and reliability of services and troubleshoot problem areas as needed.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python - OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years of people management experience, including experience managing managers.

Other Qualifications:

  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
  • Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science - OR related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, OR Python - OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python - OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
