Overview
As a Principal Software Engineer Manager in Windows Ecosystem & Commercial Engagements (WECE), you will hire and direct a talented team of engineers on a mission to build features into Windows on behalf of our customers & partners. This opportunity will allow you to deliver value directly to hundreds of millions of users. Responsibilities
- Guides partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., security, privacy, peer teams) to determine requirements within and across teams.
- Guides teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
- Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
- Guides team to drive multiple cross-group collaboration efforts, engineering release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders.
- Own delivery of OS features that integrate well into our current & future product plans.
- Deliver code changes with high quality that pass peer review, security scrutiny and are regression free.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- OR Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 10+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python.
- OR equivalent experience.
- 3+ years engineering management experience leading ICs and/or senior ICs.
- Developed and released LLM-based systems to production with production runtime of 6+ months with significant usage.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience building software in large, complicated codebases among thousands of engineers.
- Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools in production engineering environments (e.g., LLM-powered IDE workflows, code generation, automated refactoring/testing) and the ability to operationalize them into consistent team practices.
- Experience leading high impact software engineering teams, working within a shared ownership model with clear contracts.
- Experience working across teams to develop solid designs and influence others to achieve the outcomes needed for our customers & partners. Practical application of automated evaluation harnesses, quality gates, and monitoring to improve code outputs over time.
