Title and Summary

Software Engineering Manager, Fraud & Payments

Overview

The Mastercard Fraud Platform team is seeking a Manager, Software Engineering to lead a newly established team designing and developing next-generation capabilities on the Mastercard Fraud Management Platform — a mission-critical system that authenticates users, combats fraud, and protects cardholders across billions of transactions and 210 countries.

In this role, you will own the technical direction and growth of the team, balancing strategic leadership with hands-on guidance. You'll drive architectural decisions, uphold engineering quality, and scale the team as it grows — building industry-leading fraud prevention capabilities for one of the world's largest payment networks.

The Role

  • Provide technical leadership for the evolution of the Fraud Platform architecture into a microservice-driven, cloud and on-premises solution, balancing business and technical needs to find sound, pragmatic compromises.
  • Partner with Business and Product Owners to prioritize enhancements and influence strategic decisions.
  • Manage, grow, and recruit a software development team — including test engineers, analysts, scrum masters, and development engineers.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement, quality, and operational excellence, providing ongoing coaching and feedback to enable a high-performing team.

All About You

  • Proven experience as a Software Engineer or Developer with a strong Java background, with demonstrated success transitioning into an engineering leadership role.
  • Solid understanding of distributed systems, microservices, messaging systems, and cloud services, with the ability to provide meaningful technical guidance and drive quality across high-volume, low-latency environments.
  • Strong expertise in defining and using operational metrics across business outcomes, performance, and availability.
  • Experience growing and scaling engineering teams, including hiring and developing talent.
  • Prior experience in financial services, payments, or fraud is preferred.
