The Area Assistant Director of Engineering demonstrates the ability to see the big picture, effectively lead and engage teams, and proactively plan and execute required facilities work. This multi-property role is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Engineering departments at assigned properties, including the proper operation, maintenance, and repair of all HVAC, refrigeration, plumbing, electrical, life safety, and mechanical systems and equipment.

This position ensures that all properties operate safely and efficiently while aligning with Makeready’s standards, brand commitments, and guest experience expectations.

As a key partner to property leadership, the Area Assistant Director of Engineering helps drive preventative maintenance initiatives, ensures regulatory compliance, and supports day-to-day operational excellence across the portfolio.

Requested Tasks

  • Lead, manage and hold engineering teams accountable
  • Effectively manage controllable expenses and engineering budget
  • Assist Area Director of Engineering in developing an engineering operating strategy that is aligned with the property and brand business strategy
  • Oversee execution of long-term preventative maintenance asset protection plans
  • Co-chair the property’s Safety Committee

Requested Capabilities

  • 3-5 years of progressive engineering leadership experience in hospitality
  • Strong technical knowledge of hotel building systems and life safety requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop engineering teams across multiple locations.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Willingness to travel regularly within the assigned market/region.
