Lippert is seeking a Director of Engineering to apply engineering principles to design complete mechanical systems, products, or product families of large scope for products to satisfy customer requirements. Translate business objectives into design objectives and initiatives. Engineer, design, and fabricate molds and parts for plastic injection and other high complexity mechanisms along with associated tooling. Assist in merging multiple production lines across divisions and help with the company’s design philosophy and processes. Function as a bridge across disciplines, such as Design, Product, Engineering, and Marketing. Coordinate design, engineering, and quality departments in multilevel engineering changes on molds, engineered components, and assemblies in a factory setting. Research and analyze data, such as internal customer product proposals, drawings/specifications, application, and manuals to determine feasibility of mechanical design or application considering cost, time, and other factors, including by using CAD software, simulations, 3D printing, and prototyping. Work with interns and junior personnel in fabrication of test equipment and develop methods and procedures for testing products or systems. Analyze test data for viability of accuracy and development of products. Analyze FMEA, DFMEA, and UFMEA of developed products and communicate design intent through creation of robust engineering or product specifications and along with the documented specifications. Perform accurate and complete system tolerance stack up analysis assessing accumulated dimension/tolerance variation of multi-component assemblies. Practice use of stage gate development methods, engineering tools, and related industry standards. Direct, coordinate, support, and/or audit manufacturing and assembly activities to ensure products and systems conform to engineering design specifications and customer expectations. Provide technical leadership for a project team and collaborate with product management team. Delegate work to designers and engineers on the team and mentor them in all the functional duties listed above. May telecommute from any location in the U.S. HQ in Elkhart, IN.

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field and five (5) years of progressive, post-baccalaureate, related experience. Must also have 24 months of experience with each of the following:

  • Engineering, designing, and fabricating molds and parts for plastic injection and other high complex mechanisms with associated tooling;
  • Using CAD software, simulations, 3D printing, and prototyping;
  • Analyzing FMEA, DFMEA, and UFMEA of developed products;
  • Coordinating design, engineering, and quality departments in multilevel engineering changes on molds, engineered components, and assemblies in a factory or manufacturing setting;
  • Performing accurate and complete system tolerance stack up analysis assessing accumulated dimension/tolerance variation of multi-component assemblies.

Employer will accept experience gained concurrently. Up to 25% national and international travel per year required to collaborate with team members, launch products, and visit suppliers. Full-time, may telecommute from any location in the U.S. HQ in Elkhart, IN.
