Role Overview

We are seeking a Manager of Software Engineering with strong operational expertise and experience in process improvement and ideally Business Analysis/Project Management. This role combines technical leadership with operational excellence, ensuring that our marketplace systems run reliably while projects are delivered on time and aligned with business objectives.

This position is located in Arlington, VA and will have a 4-day onsite schedule Monday-Thursday, with Fridays work from home.

Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Leadership: Manage and mentor software engineers focused on backend services, APIs, and operational tooling for Homes.com marketplace.
  • Project Management: Plan, prioritize, and execute software projects using Agile methodologies; manage timelines, resources, and stakeholder expectations.
  • Business Analysis: Gather and analyze requirements from Product and Operations teams; translate business needs into technical specifications and actionable tasks.
  • Operational Reliability: Drive initiatives to improve uptime, scalability, and incident response for listing ingestion, search services, and customer-facing APIs.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with Product, Data Operations, and Infrastructure teams to align engineering priorities with marketplace growth goals.
  • Compliance & Security: Ensure adherence to privacy, security, and regulatory standards across all marketplace services.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required from an accredited, not-for-profit, in-person college/university
  • A track record of commitment to prior employers
  • 6+ years of software development experience, including 2+ years in a leadership role.
  • Proven experience in project management and/or business analysis within technology environments.
  • Strong understanding of operational processes, Agile methodologies, and SDLC.
  • Experience with API design, microservices architecture, and large-scale data ingestion.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Background in operations or process optimization within a technology environment
  • Familiarity with observability tools, incident management, and operational dashboards.
  • Ability to balance technical depth with strategic thinking.
  • Certifications such as PMP, Scrum Master, or CBAP are a plus.
