Overview

The M365 Copilot Development Platform's mission is to provide a world-class foundation for Copilot by building inferencing services, a compliant data fabric and platform, metrics and training infrastructure, continuous evaluation and other critical AI infrastructure.

In this role you will lead a new team of engineers inside the platform that will be responsible for:

  • Establishing shared best practices and paved paths (engineering standards, patterns, processes, and reusable frameworks) that help teams across the platform operate better and ship faster, aligned to the org's operating principles
  • Operating without boundaries and in collaboration with other teams, directly implementing new functionality and capabilities across the overall platform surface.

This is a hands-on role and will require you to have a deep technical understanding of how modern AI software is built and how to influence and drive change outside of your immediate team. We are looking for Principal Software Engineering Manager to join our team.

Responsibilities

  • Guides partnership with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project manager, technical lead) to determine user requirements within and across teams.
  • Guides teams and leads identification of dependencies and the development of design documents for a product, application, service, or platform.
  • Optimizes, debugs, refactors, and reuses code to improve performance and maintainability, effectiveness, and return on investment (ROI).
  • Designs complex distributed systems.
  • Guides team to drive multiple group's project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with appropriate stakeholders (e.g., project managers).
  • Guides team and acts as an expert for Designated Responsible Individual (DRI) and monitors other engineers across product lines, working on call to monitor system/product/service for degradation, downtime, or interruptions.
  • Leads product development and scaling to customer requirements and applies best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations and holds accountability for products that do not meet expectations.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 12+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • 4+ years people management experience.
  • Demonstrated success driving org-wide or platform-wide engineering standards or cross-cutting systems.
  • Experience operating in high-scale, high-availability environments.
  • A focus for building reliable, scalable infrastructure and making users successful.
  • Comfortable at operating in a dynamic environment; takes initiative to bring clarity and momentum.
  • Self-motivated and outcomes-focused, with a sense of ownership and accountability.
  • People management experience

Software Engineering M5 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $139,900 - $274,800 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $188,000 - $304,200 per year.
