Overview:

We are supporting a well established, privately held consumer focused business with a long operating history and significant growth ambitions. The organisation is entering a major transformation phase, focused on modernising its technology estate, scaling its engineering capability, and introducing data and AI driven approaches across core business functions. This position is suited to a senior engineering leader who enjoys operating in complex environments, driving modernisation initiatives, and working closely with business stakeholders to solve meaningful problems through technology.

Job Description – Director of Engineering

  • Proven experience in a senior engineering leadership role within complex or legacy environments.
  • Strong background in software engineering, ideally with full stack exposure.
  • Experience working with cloud based platforms and modern integration approaches.
  • Exposure to modern front end frameworks and contemporary commerce or transactional platforms.
  • Experience contributing to or leading legacy modernisation initiatives.
  • Strong understanding of Agile delivery and team based execution models.
  • Comfortable operating in ambiguous environments and driving change.
  • Industry experience is not essential.

Key Responsibilities – Director of Engineering

  • Experience with modern front-end frameworks like React, Vue, Angular.
  • Lead and develop a software engineering function, supporting team growth and capability building over time.
  • Drive the modernisation of legacy technology platforms and contribute to future state architecture decisions.
  • Establish effective engineering practices, delivery frameworks, and operating rhythms.
  • Partner with senior business stakeholders to align technology initiatives with commercial priorities.
  • Support the adoption of data driven and automation led approaches to improve core business processes.
  • Play a key role in shaping and executing long term technology and transformation roadmaps.
