About The Role

Northrop Grumman Space Systems is seeking a dedicated and experienced Manager 1 Software Engineering to join our dynamic team located in Huntsville, Alabama. This leadership role is integral to our GWS IDT Product Team, combining managerial oversight with technical responsibilities. The position involves leading a team of engineers, fostering innovation, and ensuring the successful execution of software development initiatives critical to missile defense and space systems. The role requires working closely with various stakeholders, managing staffing and employee development, and maintaining high standards of engineering excellence. The position is on-site at the Redstone Arsenal Gateway facility, with an expectation of travel up to 10% to support program needs.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate must possess a current in-scope DoD Secret security clearance at the time of application, which is required to start. A bachelor's degree in a STEM discipline from an accredited institution, along with at least five years of relevant technical experience in software engineering, systems integration, or test engineering, is essential. Candidates holding a master's degree with three years of related experience or a PhD with one year of experience are also encouraged to apply. Prior experience leading technical teams and familiarity with staffing practices, engineering metrics, agile methodologies, and engineering tools are highly desirable. Willingness to travel up to 10% of the time is necessary.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight of staffing, employee development, and continuous improvement of engineering practices within the team.
  • Apply strong leadership skills to motivate the team, drive high performance, and foster a culture of innovation and accountability.
  • Manage subordinate department managers supporting engineering teams comprising 10 or more members, ensuring effective collaboration and communication.
  • Lead efforts in problem-solving, project planning, and execution to meet program objectives and deliverables.
  • Promote adherence to ethics and integrity while challenging traditional workflows to improve efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Coordinate with multiple sites, stakeholders, and cross-functional teams to achieve outstanding results and ensure project success.
  • Balance managerial duties with technical responsibilities, contributing to software development and system integration efforts.
  • Support program milestones, technical reviews, and compliance with industry standards and security requirements.
