About The Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Software Engineering Manager to join our Mission Planning team in Hazelwood, MO. This pivotal role is critical to the success of the Tomahawk Cruise Missile program, overseeing a talented team of over 15 software engineers responsible for maintaining and transforming the Tomahawk Planning System. The manager will oversee the program's profit and loss (P&L), ensuring successful delivery, quality, and performance. This position offers an exciting opportunity for a leader passionate about advancing mission planning capabilities for the U.S. and its allies, directly contributing to national security and defense initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, strategic thinking, and a deep understanding of software development and program management within a defense or government context. The role requires close collaboration with cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and senior leadership to ensure project objectives are met while fostering a culture of continuous improvement and innovation.

Qualifications

  • Candidates should possess an active U.S. Secret Clearance with the ability to obtain a Top-Secret Clearance.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of experience with Agile software development methodologies is required, along with at least 3+ years of formal management experience leading software engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, are essential for effective stakeholder engagement and team leadership.
  • Preferred qualifications include domain experience with government applications, experience as a Program Manager, and a proven track record of developing and presenting strategic recommendations to leadership.

  • Set clear performance expectations, provide constructive feedback, and drive accountability to maintain high performance standards.
  • Ensure the successful delivery of programs by managing cost, schedule, and technical performance, including overseeing CDRL preparation and submission.
  • Monitor and measure success using metrics and KPIs, driving continuous improvement and operational excellence.
  • Coach, mentor, and develop team members through regular feedback, training opportunities, and job assignments to enhance satisfaction and capabilities.
