Our client is a high-growth, venture-backed startup building the next generation of infrastructure for developer-facing teams. Founded by a technical team from top-tier firms they are solving the complexity of how modern software is integrated and consumed at scale.
They are looking for an Engineering Manager to lead a core squad of high-performing engineers. This is a "player-coach" role designed for a leader who still has a high degree of technical curiosity and enjoys being close to the code.
The Role
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor a team of 6–12 engineers, fostering a culture of high-trust autonomy and extreme ownership.
- Technical Excellence: Act as a primary architect and sounding board. You will perform deep code reviews and contribute to the codebase during critical sprints or complex architecture shifts.
- Talent Strategy: Partner with the founders to scale the engineering organization, maintaining a world-class bar for technical "taste" and execution.
- Product Impact: Translate complex customer requirements into a streamlined technical roadmap, ensuring the team ships high-impact features with minimal friction.
The Ideal Profile
- High "Developer Taste": You care deeply about developer experience (DX). You believe that tools and APIs should be intuitive, well-documented, and high-performance.
- Technical Foundation: Expert proficiency in TypeScript and modern backend architecture. You should be comfortable (or interested) in a polyglot environment where the team solves problems across multiple programming languages.
- Startup DNA: You prefer the "zero-to-one" environment. You thrive in low-meeting, high-output cultures where bureaucracy is non-existent.
- Leadership Maturity: You have a proven track record of managing high-performers by providing context and support rather than micromanagement.
