Are you ready to lead a team that builds innovative end-to-end software solutions spanning device software, cloud infrastructure, and applications? We are seeking a collaborative Software Development Manager to lead a cross-functional team responsible for bringing a complete product to market. This role offers a unique opportunity to oversee the entire development lifecycle from concept to customer delivery, making technical decisions that impact multiple platforms and technologies.

In this position, you will guide a talented engineering team through complex technical challenges while accelerating delivery through innovative approaches including AI integration. You will be responsible for developing platform and infrastructure components that power our products, establishing technical direction, and creating an environment where your team can thrive and deliver exceptional results to customers.

Key job responsibilities

  • Lead a software development team through the full product lifecycle, from architecture and design to implementation and delivery, ensuring quality software aligned with engineering best practices
  • Create and execute the technical vision for end-to-end solutions encompassing device software, cloud infrastructure, and application development, balancing tactical needs against strategic goals
  • Build and nurture a high-performing team through effective hiring, mentoring, and career development, providing the necessary support for engineers to take responsibility for their systems
  • Drive innovation by implementing AI solutions both within development workflows and product features, accelerating delivery timelines while maintaining quality
  • Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to define product requirements, establish priorities, and deliver solutions that meet customer needs while navigating complex technical challenges

A day in the life

Your day begins with a team stand-up where you review progress and help remove blockers. Throughout the day, you'll dive deep into technical challenges alongside your engineers, providing guidance on architecture decisions for both device software and cloud infrastructure components. You'll collaborate with product managers to refine requirements, meet with other technical leaders to align on cross-team dependencies, and explore opportunities to incorporate AI technologies to enhance both the development process and product capabilities. You'll focus on identifying ways to accelerate delivery without compromising quality, ensuring your team has clear priorities and the support they need to succeed.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
