The Prime Video Ads team owns services that integrate with ad decision systems, handle dynamic transcoding and stitching of ad creatives across HLS/DASH/SS streaming protocols. We run the ads business on Prime Video for svod, channels, live and linear content.

We are seeking a talented Software Development Manager to grow and develop a team of passionate engineers to scale up our Channels business. As an SDM, you will be exposed to industry leading Publishers and ad servers as well as get to work on a lot of established as well as green field AWS technologies and design large scale backend systems. You will also be exposed to industry leading AV tech such as UHD/HDR/Dolby-Atmos, 1P and 3P ad servers and gain a deep understanding of Prime Video's Live and VoD workflows.

The ideal candidate will be passionate about simple and elegant software solutions, customer-centric products, and utilizing agile development processes. You will look at problems holistically, beyond the borders of your team, and thrive on solutions that require thinking at multiple levels, from strategic to business tactical to system goals to specific interfaces. You are adept at reading code and writing documents for an executive audience. You ensure solutions are reliable, scalable, and secure. You don't shy away from the spotlight, able to coordinate cross-org meetings, field difficult questions, and create positive collaborative outcomes.

What you'll do:

  • Manage and grow a team of software engineers, including their projects, performance, and career growth
  • Clearly communicate project roadmaps with your team, management, and principal stakeholders
  • Work with peer managers to determine scope and estimate development effort
  • Lead systems design, architecture, and scaling discussions
  • Influence and adopt industry standards
  • Argue for the right outcomes with data, conviction, and diplomacy

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience
  • 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $166,400/year in our lowest geographic market up to $287,700/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
