Alexa Sensitive Content Intelligence team leverages natural language understanding, machine learning, and big data to help Alexa identify sensitive content. We build services and tools that let customers have a fun engaging conversation with Alexa and enable other teams to manage sensitive content in Alexa traffic. We are a highly collaborative, fast moving, and fun team.

As a Software Development Manager in the team, you will be leading the development and launch of new features that will touch millions of Alexa customers worldwide. You will influence our overall strategy, drive system architectures, lead/grow engineers, help establish best practices that ensure a high-quality product and build relationships with your customers and partner teams. You will lead an engineering team and work closely with product management and ML science team to define requirements, from concept through delivery and subsequent operation. You will regularly communicate with senior management on status, risks and product strategy.

Key job responsibilities

  • Managing a team of 10 to 12 developers and delivering solutions for bettering the Alexa + model performances through LLM based systems that grade Alexa + performance retrospectively and provide learning guidance for the core models to improve performance, specifically in the responsible AI space.
  • Responsible for the career growth and development of the team members
  • Responsible for working with product managers, applied scientists, partner teams in translating the requirements to software deliverables and tracking those deliverables
  • Responsible for business intelligence and data engineering functions
  • Responsible for the overall QA strategy for the org
  • Responsible for charting the AI strategy for the team's productivity increase.

About the team

Alexa Sensitive Content Intelligence team is responsible for providing the runtime enablers to keep Alexa engaging and compliant to our content policies, guard rails to prevent any non-compliance and offline monitoring and learning.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi-tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
  • Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
