Our Echo Software team works on not only the Echo Show but other high-profile consumer electronics products including Fire TV, Kindle, and the Echo family of devices.

As a Software Development Manager, you will be responsible for leading the technical vision of your team and will have a strong influence on the overall strategy of the Alexa device software. You are comfortable with high-levels of ambiguity and make thoughtful trade-offs utilizing strong technical judgement and data. You have hands-on technical expertise and will lead a team of highly competent engineers through design, development and launch of high-visibility, high-impact projects. You will have the freedom and encouragement to explore your own ideas and the reward of seeing your contributions excite our customers. Additional responsibilities of this role include engaging with various stake-holders across business and product management.

Key job responsibilities

  • Responsible for the over-all systems development life cycle of a key products
  • Management and execution against project plans and delivery commitments
  • Manage the day-to-day activities of the engineering team within an Agile/Scrum environment
  • Management of staffing, mentoring, and enhancing and maintaining a best-in-class engineering team
  • Report on status of development, quality, operations, and system performance to management
  • Work closely with the engineers to architect and develop the best technical design and approach
  • Develop the long-term strategy for onboarding and device settings initiatives and translate it into an achievable road map/action plan
  • Leveraging and driving AI adoption for the velocity and efficiency gains

Basic Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of engineering experience
  • 3+ years of engineering team management experience
  • 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience
  • Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
  • Experience partnering with product or program management teams
  • Experience designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
  • Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
